Informed Consent

Pregnancy Podcast – Q&A: Informed Consent

Why this episode?
I was not intending to feature the amazing Pregnancy Podcast again quite so soon but when I found this episode I knew I had to.

I cannot emphasise enough how important, vital even, informed consent is to having a birth experience which you view as both positive and empowering.

With that being said, let’s get right into this fantastic episode.

The episode
In the Q&A episodes (which tend to be a bit shorter) Vanessa reads out a listener question and then answers it using scientific research and evidence-based resources.

10 Ways to Support a Breastfeeding Person

The Boob Group – 10 Ways to Support Breastfeeding Moms

Why this podcast?
I like this podcast as it comes across as light, fun and chatty while still managing to cover some really important topics.

The Boob Group falls under the umbrella of New Mommy Media and its sister podcasts include Preggie Pals and Newbies.

Along with a panel of women who always sound like they are having a blast, there is often an expert along for the ride.

Episodes tend to be around forty minutes and of course, you can always fast forward through the commercials and the chit chat at the beginning.

Cord Blood Banking

The Pregnancy Podcast – Cord Blood Banking

Why this podcast?
Well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The host, Vanessa Merten, brings you well-researched, evidence-based information on a huge range of subjects in easy to digest episodes of thirty minutes or less.

It’s no wonder this podcast features here so regularly!

Why this episode?
As a doula, I belong to a few online pregnancy groups and I see questions about cord blood banking popping up fairly regularly.

Empowered Epidurals & TENS Machines

Dallas Birth Guide – Empowered Epidurals and TENS Units for Labor

Why this podcast?
Well, I’m 99.9% sure that this podcast has never been featured on this blog. It has, however, been lurking in my podcast library for quite some time so I decided to give it some air!

The Dallas Birth Guide is, as the name suggests, aimed at families in Dallas, Texas but as it is an online resource everyone can benefit from its content. The Dallas Birth Guide’s goal is to –

”Educate, empower, and support growing families through informed decisions and support in birthing their way!”

5 Rules For New Parents

Pregnancy Podcast – Five Rules for New Parents

Why this podcast?
Anyone who has read this blog before knows how much I value families having access to evidenced-based information so that they can make informed choices for their pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

This podcast is still one of my absolute favourites for providing that info in short, clear and easy to digest episodes of thirty minutes or less.

Why this episode?
The recent arrival of a new royal baby in the UK got me thinking about what it’s like to suddenly have an actual tiny human to care for.

Cluster Feeding and How To Cope With It

The Boob Group – Coping with Cluster Feedings

Why this podcast?
This podcast falls under the New Mommy Media umbrella and its sister podcasts include Preggie Pals, Newbies and Twin Talks.

A panel of women and, usually, a guest expert, delve into a specific topic in a chatty, fun way that still provides good information in a very accessible way.

There are some commercials but you can just zoom through those with a click or two.

Why this episode?
I belong to a few pregnancy and baby groups and often see parents wondering what’s going on when their baby suddenly wants to eat way more often.

7 Signs Of Tokophobia

Fear Free Childbirth – 7 Signs of a Woman with Tokophobia

Why this podcast?
This is one I’ve featured a few times but the host, Alexia Leachman, had taken a bit of a break from podcasting. I was happy to see The Fear Free Childbirth Podcast back in action and thought this episode looked pretty interesting.

The podcast itself is just one of the many fantastic resources on the Fear Free Childbirth website.

Alexia experienced the extreme fear of pregnancy and childbirth that is Tokophobia and has made it her mission to work toward supporting other expecting parents and to take the fear out of birth.

Virtual Doulas: What They Do and How They Can Help

The Embodied and Well Mom Show – Virtual Doulas: What They Do and How They Can Help

Why this podcast?
In short, because they have an episode on virtual doulas and as I have recently launched my own Virtual Doula services, I was curious to hear a discussion featuring this topic.

The Embodied and Well Mom Show used to be known as The Nurtured Mama Podcast and their website is www.intuitiveeatingmoms.com so the various names could be a little confusing.

The website looks great however and the podcast itself is all about –

Stay Away From Google

The Postpartum Podcast – Stay off of Google, trust your instincts and more helpful tips.

Why this podcast?
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in your pregnancy and upcoming birth that you kind of forget that after all that, the real work starts.

Yep, you’ll have a brand new, teeny little human to look after and preparing for that, as far as you can, is so helpful.

This podcast is warm and supportive and covers pretty much all aspects of the postpartum experience.

Why this episode?
I talk to clients about trusting their own instincts but it can be so hard to do when you are suddenly responsible for a whole other person.

Nobody Told Me!

The New Mom Show – No one told me…….

Why this podcast?
Another new one today folks! This podcast is all about –

”Two new moms sharing our journey as we navigate motherhood and all of its beauty, struggles, and so many diapers!”

I loved the sound of that. New motherhood can be a lonely time as well as a time of self-doubt.

Are we doing a good job? Is this normal?

It can be helpful to listen to other mums out there who are in this too.

The hosts are Alexys, a first-time mum who loves good food, gardening and sport and Latoya, a mum, wellness instructor and writer. They are both lively, enthusiastic and funny!
