What To Pack In Your Birth Bag

The Pregnancy Podcast – What to Pack in Your Birth Bag

Why this podcast?
If you’ve ever read this blog before you will probably have stumbled across quite a few posts featuring the Pregnancy Podcast.

I love it because the episodes are short, easy to listen to and use evidence-based info to help you get informed about pretty much everything and anything surrounding your pregnancy and birth.

It’s an amazing resource and I’m so happy that the host, Vanessa Merten, is still going strong!

The Evidence On Placenta Encapsulation

The Evidence Based Birth Podcast – (Episode 7)

Why this podcast?
As a doula, I always want to guide my clients to evidence-based information so that they can make truly informed decisions. Evidence Based Birth is a fantastic website with easy to understand research and information on a whole range of pregnancy and birth-related topics.

From the evidence on being induced or having a cesarean for a big baby to failure to progress; premature rupture of membranes; doulas and a natural labour induction series, they’ve got you covered.

5 Reasons To Choose Home Birth…And 1 Reason Not To

Doing It At Home Podcast – Why Are You Choosing Home Birth?

Why this podcast?
I’ve really fallen for this one. The hosts, Matthew and Sarah Bivens, began this podcast as a way of documenting their own journey to home birth. Since then it has become so much more. They interview birth experts, share their experience of pregnancy, birth and parenting and talk to other families who had their babies at home.

I think it is fair to say that whilst this podcast is very much about open and honest conversation around home birth, it is really about choosing the birth that is empowering and right for you, however that looks.

10 Pregnancy Nutrition Hacks

Taking Back Birth – 10 Pregnancy Nutrition Hacks

Why this podcast?
Because, and I know you are not supposed to start a sentence with because, but anyway, because I subscribed to this podcast many moons ago and realised recently that I have only featured it once.  The founder and main host, Marin Green, was actually interviewed on another podcast that I listened to the other day and I took that as a bit of a sign to get my butt in gear and feature another episode!

This podcast is one of the resources from Indie Birth. Indie Birth’s homepage features the following statement –

Pain Management For Labour

Evidence Based Birth Podcast

Why this podcast?
I have long been a huge fan of the Evidence Based Birth website. I know that it’s a go-to place for both doulas and their clients. It’s founder, Rebecca Dekker, is a nurse who also has a PhD. This combination means not only does she have the medical knowledge but she knows how to carry out good research too!

In 2012, Rebecca created Evidence Based Birth as a non-biased source of information because she believes in –

“putting the evidence back in the hands of the people who need it the most: birthing people and their families.”

Could Dates Help Your Labour?

The Pregnancy Podcast – Will Eating Dates Help Your Labor?

Why this podcast?
If you are a regular here then you’ll know how much I LOVE this podcast. Evidence-based, easy to follow episodes of thirty minutes or less giving you the low-down on pretty much everything and anything you might want to know about pregnancy and birth.

This really is a fantastic place from which to start your journey to informed decision making.

The host, Vanessa Merten, has just had her second baby, a little girl, so huge congratulations to you, Vanessa!

How To Love Your Birth – However It Looks

How To Love Your Birth – The Expectful Podcast

Why this podcast?
I had heard about Expectful pretty often whilst listening to podcasts. I knew that they offered guided meditation for fertility, pregnancy and motherhood but had not realised there was also a podcast!

Once I subscribed there was an episode that grabbed my attention immediately.

The host, Anna Gannon, is a new mum, yoga teacher, Expectful’s community guide and writer. She says that the guided meditations she used during a difficult time in her pregnancy helped her so much that she wanted to join the team.

Birth With Joy – BirthTube!!! What Is That?

Why this podcast?
I listened to this podcast a few days ago and immediately fell in love with its opening music (Cloud Cult – You Were Born) and then discovered (a podcast first for me) that it’s hosted by a midwife.

After giving birth to her son, Mountain in a converted school bus attended by a midwife, the host, Joy Jech –

“realized her life calling was to support other mothers to have an empowering, transformative, and loving birth experience”

What If YOU Were In Charge Of Pregnancy & Birth?

Birth, Baby & Life – What If YOU Were In Charge Of Pregnancy & Birth?

Why this podcast?
The Birth, Baby & Life podcast has only featured once on this blog but with one hundred episodes to date, I felt it was time for another!

The host, Kristen Burgess, is an advocate of natural birth but says that blind faith in birth is not enough. She stresses the importance of working with your unique body and your unique pregnancy and baby to prepare for the birth you want.

Kristen has eight children and so definitely knows a thing or two about birth. She developed Natural Birth and Baby Care in the hope of providing –

Doulas

PregTASTIC – Prenatal Doula

Why this podcast?
I recently completed all the requirements for my Birth Doula certification and was feeling inspired to write a post on doulas. I happened to stumble upon the PregTASTIC podcast and decided it would be a good time to feature them again.

Then I realised that I hadn’t featured them at all.

Not once!

So, not only did I find an episode on doulas but I get to feature a whole new podcast too.

PregTASTIC describes itself as –

“A weekly online radio show by pregnant women, for pregnant women about the fantastic journeys to motherhood”
