Rock Your Birth

Rockstar Birth Radio – Positive Caesarean Birth

Why this podcast?
Maybe it’s because I’m a doula and super interested in all things birth but I get a lot of photos and links pop up on my social media from Rockstar Birth Magazine.

I love their photos of birthing mothers, they are so richly powerful, beautiful and often intense.

I had no idea, however, that there was also a Rockstar Birth Radio, in other words, a podcast!

Excited much?

The host, Shalome Stone, who also started the Rock Your Birth Academy, asks if you want to remain in fear of birth –

The Power To Heal

Awakening Birth – The Power To Heal

**Trigger Warning**
This post contains references to childhood sexual abuse.

Why this podcast?
I am so excited about this podcast!
Why?
Well, for several reasons…

1. It’s another new one for me and therefore for this blog.

2. It’s hosted by two midwives.
The first is Robin Lim, founder of Bumi Sehat health clinics in Indonesia. These vital clinics offer free prenatal care and birthing services to anyone who needs them.

The second is Deborah Flowers who works alongside the amazing Ina May Gaskin at The Farm in Tennesee.
(If you are not familiar with The Farm or Ina May Gaskin I beg you to click on the above link and do some serious reading. You’ll be so glad you did).

Due Dates are Dumb!

Pregnancy Confidential: Week 34 – Due Dates are Dumb!

Why this podcast?
This podcast stood out for me in terms of its style. It’s hosted by editors from Parenting and Fit Pregnancy and Baby magazines and consists of a series of thirty-two episodes designed to be listened to week by week.

It’s a little similar to Preggie Pals, which I featured in this post, in that it is hosted by a small group of women who chat, laugh and share information for your pregnancy and birth as well as personal experiences.

Bustin’ Some Myths

The Pregnancy Podcast: Episode 76 – Common Pregnancy, Birth & Breastfeeding Myths

Why this podcast?
As this is the third time I have featured an episode from The Pregnancy Podcast I think it is pretty obvious that I am a huge fan.

Why?

Evidence-based information on pretty much any pregnancy or birth related topic you can think of given in an entertaining, structured and easy to follow way. Oh, and all of this in episodes of thirty minutes or less.

What’s not to love?

One of my first posts, Get me an epidural!!!!!! Or………. not??? lays out all the ins and outs of this podcast in a lot of detail (I mean A LOT of detail) so if you would like to swat up on The Pregnancy Podcast that would be a good post to check out.

Family-Centred Cesareans

Birthful: Episode 50 – Family-Centred Cesareans

Why this podcast?
With over a hundred episodes covering a huge range of pregnancy, birth and postpartum topics, this podcast is a great one to return to again and again.
The host, Adriana Lozada, is warm, bubbly and so enthusiastic that as well as being packed with great info each episode is also really entertaining to listen to.

Adriana is not only the host of this podcast but also a birth doula, postpartum educator, writer and author.

Preggie Pals

Preggie Pals: Episodes – Delivering a Breech Baby & 10 Pregnancy Questions You’re too Embarrassed to Ask

Why this podcast?
I recently discovered a whole bunch of pregnancy and birth podcasts. Preggie Pals was among them and at first glance, it looked like a fairly lighthearted, dare I say, fluffy, style of podcast. I wasn’t really sure that it would be my thing but this blog isn’t about me so I decided to take a closer look.

I have to say that I was quite surprised by the content of the episodes. Many explored more serious subjects than I was perhaps expecting. Intrigued, I went to the homepage to find out more.

Get me an epidural!!!!!!!!!!! Or……….not??????

The Pregnancy Podcast: Episode 38 – Epidural

Why this podcast?
I decided to feature The Pregnancy Podcast early on because it was one of the first podcasts I listened to and, more importantly, because I think it is amazing!
The host, Vanessa Merten, has a totally relaxed vibe going on with a very easy to listen to voice. At the same time, the woman knows her stuff!

I love how she gives you an overview of the topic and then talks about the risks and benefits associated with it.

The absolute best thing for me, as a doula, is that Vanessa really does her research. You can be sure that what you are getting is evidence-based information and that, in a world full of internet opinion and blah blah, is gold!
