5 Reasons To Choose Home Birth…And 1 Reason Not To

Doing It At Home Podcast – Why Are You Choosing Home Birth?

Why this podcast?
I’ve really fallen for this one. The hosts, Matthew and Sarah Bivens, began this podcast as a way of documenting their own journey to home birth. Since then it has become so much more. They interview birth experts, share their experience of pregnancy, birth and parenting and talk to other families who had their babies at home.

I think it is fair to say that whilst this podcast is very much about open and honest conversation around home birth, it is really about choosing the birth that is empowering and right for you, however that looks.

Will Your Partner Be A Rock at Your Birth?

Rockstar Birth Radio – Brian The Birth Guy: Rockin’ Dads

Why this podcast?
I love, love, love all the beautiful and powerful photos that I see on social media from the rockstar birth mamas.

I also believe, so strongly, that whatever kind of birth you want it is incredibly important to be an active participant in that birth.

Shalome Stone, the host of Rockstar Birth Radio, says that when she was pregnant with her first baby she wanted a natural, drug-free labour but did precisely zero preparation and simply turned up at the hospital in labour asking “So, what do I do next?”

Birth With Joy – BirthTube!!! What Is That?

Why this podcast?
I listened to this podcast a few days ago and immediately fell in love with its opening music (Cloud Cult – You Were Born) and then discovered (a podcast first for me) that it’s hosted by a midwife.

After giving birth to her son, Mountain in a converted school bus attended by a midwife, the host, Joy Jech –

“realized her life calling was to support other mothers to have an empowering, transformative, and loving birth experience”

Doulas

PregTASTIC – Prenatal Doula

Why this podcast?
I recently completed all the requirements for my Birth Doula certification and was feeling inspired to write a post on doulas. I happened to stumble upon the PregTASTIC podcast and decided it would be a good time to feature them again.

Then I realised that I hadn’t featured them at all.

Not once!

So, not only did I find an episode on doulas but I get to feature a whole new podcast too.

PregTASTIC describes itself as –

“A weekly online radio show by pregnant women, for pregnant women about the fantastic journeys to motherhood”

Natural Ways to Handle Labour

The Birth Hour – Natural Coping Techniques for Labor

Why this podcast?
The Birth Hour was the very first podcast that I featured on this blog (For Every Woman) and I love listening to the huge range of birth journeys and experiences that can be found there.

I especially love that the host, Bryn Huntpalmer, has created a safe haven for women to share both their birth stories and all the emotions that come along with them.

The episode I am going to feature here is a bit different as it is not a birth story but one of five fantastic ‘Know Your Options’ bonus episodes co-created with doula, childbirth educator and lactation consultant, Stephanie Spitzer-Hanks.

5 Top Tips For Choosing Your Birth Team

Doing It At Home – Picking Your All-Star Home Birth Team

Why this podcast?
Another new one this week and I’m super excited to introduce this podcast.
I have to say that since discovering it a few days ago, I have become a little bit addicted.
The Doing It At Home Podcast is honest, real, open and it can be pretty raw too.

The hosts, married couple and health and fitness enthusiasts Matthew and Sarah, take you through their home birth journey.

They are funny, super relaxed and I love that they record their episodes at home, sometimes with some little gurgles and cries from their baby daughter, Maya.

10 Steps For A Powerful Birth

Taking Back Birth – 10 Steps For A Powerful Birth

Why this podcast?
I wanted to feature a podcast that I hadn’t featured before. Taking Back Birth is actually part of a website called Indie Birth. Indie Birth has some great pregnancy and birth related resources, from podcasts to blogs, courses and the wise woman circle.

When you land on the Indie Birth homepage you are greeted with this wonderful message –

“INDIE BIRTH IS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION AND KNOWLEDGE FOR THE MODERN PREGNANT WOMAN WHO KNOWS THAT HER BODY AND HER BABY ARE WISE; AND FOR THE MODERN BIRTHKEEPER WHO BELIEVES IN THESE WOMEN AS MUCH AS WE DO.”

What Your Partner Needs To Know

The Pregnancy Podcast – Dad, Everything you Need to Know

Why this podcast?
It’s The Pregnancy Podcast again. Yep, I know, it features a lot but it’s great, so why not?
The host, Vanessa Merten, does all the research for you. All you need to do is tune in and listen to her break down, in a super simple and accessible way, everything you need to know.

Vanessa has a very relaxing voice and an easy style. All of the research is linked to in her show notes so that if you want to, you can explore the studies mentioned in more depth.
