Create Your Village

The Empowered Mama – It Takes A Village

Why this podcast?
This is another one from the gold mine that is the Parents on Demand Network. There are so many pregnancy, birth and parent-related podcasts that, honestly, I’ll be featuring quite a few more over the coming weeks.

The Empowered Mama podcast is hosted by Lisa Druxmna whose passion it is –

”To raise healthy moms so that they can raise healthy kids in a healthy world”

The podcast focuses on fitness, food, life balance and living with passion and purpose.

Simple, Healthy Foods For Your Postpartum

Newbies – Postpartum Nutrition for New Moms

Why this podcast?
Whilst exploring the array of fertility, pregnancy, birth and parenting podcasts under the umbrella Parents on Demand (or POD) network for my previous post I stumbled across the Newbies podcast.

Covering areas such as preparing your car for your new baby; delayed postpartum depression; tears and episiotomy; swaddling; cloth diapers and sex after baby, this podcast seemed a great one to feature here.

Who should listen to this episode?
Expecting mums, partners and any family and friends who are planning to help out with food post-baby.

6 Essential Items For NICU Families

Delivering Miracles – Essential Gifts for NICU Parents

Why this podcast?
I decided that I needed to freshen things up a little and so I went through all the podcasts I subscribe to, deleted some and went looking for new ones. I had heard, via the fantastic Doing It At Home (DIAH) podcast, that there is a collection of fertility, pregnancy, birth and parenting podcasts under the umbrella Parents on Demand (or POD) network.

I think it’s safe to say I found a few new podcasts to explore!

7 Ways Your Partner Can Support You Postpartum

Healthy Births Happy Babies – 7 Ways Dads Can Best Support Moms During Postpartum

Why this podcast?
This was one of the first podcasts that I featured on this blog but I have to admit that, lately, I have kind of forgotten about it. I thought about it just the other day and decided it was high time to feature it again!

This is a podcast hosted by doctors but geared towards undisturbed (or intervention-free) birth, which, rightly or wrongly, is not necessarily a combination you might expect.

Taking A Breastfeeding Class…..Before Your Baby Arrives?

All Things Breastfeeding Podcast – Taking a Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Why this podcast?
This podcast is part of a website called The Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor (BFCAA.com) which is a fantastic resource for everything relating to breastfeeding and includes links to blogs, youtube videos, apps and lots more.

It’s such a great resource that I am going ahead with this post even though, for some reason, I can no longer access the website. I am not the most tech savvy individual so I’m not sure if the problem is my end or the website end. If anyone knows what might be happening please let me know!

Do You Co-Sleep?

All About Breastfeeding – Helen Ball Talks Co-sleeping and Room Sharing

Why this podcast?
This is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to or already breastfeeding.
The host, Lori Isenstadt, is an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and after having a tough birth and breastfeeding experience with her first child, she certified as both a Childbirth Educator and a Birth Doula.

With around ten thousand consultations with mothers and babies, Lori definitely knows a thing or two about breastfeeding.

The Evidence On Placenta Encapsulation

The Evidence Based Birth Podcast – (Episode 7)

Why this podcast?
As a doula, I always want to guide my clients to evidence-based information so that they can make truly informed decisions. Evidence Based Birth is a fantastic website with easy to understand research and information on a whole range of pregnancy and birth-related topics.

From the evidence on being induced or having a cesarean for a big baby to failure to progress; premature rupture of membranes; doulas and a natural labour induction series, they’ve got you covered.

Life With A Newborn Might Not Be All Sunshine and Daisies

Life With A Newborn Might Not Be All Sunshine and Daisies
This post is going to be very different from my regular posts. For a start, it’s going to be shorter. For another, it’s not really going to be about a podcast.

Many of you know that I am now in the process of certifying as a Postpartum Doula. It’s got me thinking about the postpartum period, the fourth trimester as it’s sometimes called, and about my own experience of that time.

Recently, there was a post in a group I belong to from someone open enough to admit that she was feeling overwhelmed by postpartum life. A baby, older children, a husband, housework, guests…. It was too much to handle everything and so she reached out.

Top Tips For a Smoother Postpartum

Delivering Strength Podcast – Postpartum Planning with Lisa Falkenstein

Why this podcast?
Now that I’m well into my amazing Postpartum Doula course you are probably going to see a few more posts focusing on the time after birth. This podcast popped up as I was searching for some juicy new material and I was intrigued.

The Delivering Strength Podcast is hosted by Candace Gesicki and Anna Marie Murphy. Candace is a chiropractor, doula, regional director of Birthfit Cleveland and just happens to be a CrossFit athlete in her spare time! Anna Marie is also into CrossFit, is a new mum, marketer and loves learning about holistic health and nutrition.

Preparing For Your Postpartum

Fourth Trimester Podcast – Preparing to Enjoy the Fourth Trimester

Why this podcast?
Last week I began the process of training and certifying as a Postpartum Doula. I love the idea of supporting families right the way through pregnancy, labour and birth and then into the postpartum too.

I definitely wanted to celebrate that step by choosing a postpartum centred episode to feature this week.

It’s so easy to focus so much on the pregnancy and birth that we forget that, actually, after the baby arrives is when the work really starts.
