Podcast much? A window into the world of birth podcasts

Podcasts are amazing!!! There, I’ve said it, my secret’s out, I’m a huge podcast fan.

As someone who is not especially technically savvy and is only recently dipping her toes into social media (other than facebook, I mean of course I’m on facebook..) I am sooo happy to have discovered podcasts. They are such a great way to access information and import it directly into your brain. Ok, I’m exaggerating slightly but they are a fantastic way to get hold of that info you have been meaning to for a while but just haven’t found the time for yet.

You can listen to a podcast while running, watching your little ones at dance class or tennis, doing the housework, waiting for the bus, sitting in the doctor’s waiting room or having your morning coffee. The possibilities are endless, as are, it seems, the variety of podcasts that are out there

Which podcast is for me?
This will completely depend on what you are interested in, what kind of style you like or what kind of information you need at a specific moment. As a doula, I am especially inspired by birth-related podcasts.

The information provided by podcasts can be invaluable during your pregnancy, when you are planning the birth of your baby and beyond. From podcasts which have done the research for you so that you reap the benefits of all that great knowledge to birth stories, breastfeeding, and the postpartum.

Why write a blog about birth podcasts?
Ok, so we’ve established that I’m fascinated by birth and that I think podcasts are the best thing since sliced bread but why a blog? I’m getting to that, I promise….

There is so much information out there that it is sometimes hard to know where to start. I want this blog to be a little window into the world of pregnancy and birth podcasts. I hope that you will then be inspired to listen to an episode now and then or that you might discover an episode that is really relevant for you. I want this to be a place where I can share the best of what I have listened to and would love for you to leave comments with ideas for areas to focus on in future posts or to share a podcast that you love.

How will this look?

Each blog post will focus on one episode (or two if I’m feeling particularly energetic). I will talk about what the episode is about, highlight the main points and do a general review as well as commenting and underlining who especially might benefit from listening.
I’ll throw in the odd personal story from time to time too.

Even narrowing down the field to pregnancy and birth there are still a whole lot of podcasts out there. I plan to choose the episodes to blog about based on one or more of the below criteria

– Is this information important/relevant to a large number of women?

– Is this episode inspiring or simply really, really interesting?

– Does this episode tackle a subject that is trending in the media right now?

As well as researching episodes that have already been released I am really hoping to persuade some of the hosts to let me have a sneak preview of their future episodes so that you get some advance information and can listen to that particular episode as soon as it is released.

I hope that via this blog I can inspire you to check out some really amazing podcasts!
