Hypnobirthing: The Lowdown

Doing It At Home – Hypnobirthing: Using The Power of The Mind To Influence Your Body

The podcast
The Doing It At Home podcast is hosted by married couple and health and fitness enthusiasts Matthew and Sarah.

Using a mix of birth stories, guest experts and episodes with Sarah and Matthew holding the floor, it’s a dynamic podcast and not one you’ll get tired of.

It’s also honest, real and it can be pretty raw too.

Even if you are not planning a home birth there is so much insight to be gained and then applied to any kind of pregnancy and birth journey.

The Pregnancy Podcast – Using Your BRAIN: 5 Questions You Should Be Asking

Why this podcast?
The Pregnancy Podcast features regularly on this blog and needs no long introduction.

Informed Consent

Pregnancy Podcast – Q&A: Informed Consent

Why this episode?
I was not intending to feature the amazing Pregnancy Podcast again quite so soon but when I found this episode I knew I had to.

I cannot emphasise enough how important, vital even, informed consent is to having a birth experience which you view as both positive and empowering.

With that being said, let’s get right into this fantastic episode.

The episode
In the Q&A episodes (which tend to be a bit shorter) Vanessa reads out a listener question and then answers it using scientific research and evidence-based resources.

10 Ways to Support a Breastfeeding Person

The Boob Group – 10 Ways to Support Breastfeeding Moms

Why this podcast?
I like this podcast as it comes across as light, fun and chatty while still managing to cover some really important topics.

The Boob Group falls under the umbrella of New Mommy Media and its sister podcasts include Preggie Pals and Newbies.

Along with a panel of women who always sound like they are having a blast, there is often an expert along for the ride.

Episodes tend to be around forty minutes and of course, you can always fast forward through the commercials and the chit chat at the beginning.

What Role Should Men Play In Birth?

Evidence Based Birth – What role should men play in birth?

Why this podcast?
I refer people to the Evidence-Based Birth website all the time and am so happy that there is now a podcast too. All of the articles are, as the name suggests, evidence-based, meaning you have access to solid information on which to base your decisions.

It is so very important that whatever choices you make surrounding your pregnancy and birth are informed ones.

Information and knowledge ensure that you are the driver in your experience rather than a passenger.

Back Labour and How to Handle It

Preggie Pals – Managing Back Labor

Why this podcast?
I re-discovered this podcast while I was exploring the Parents On Demand network.

Each episode features a group of women who are mothers, pregnant or both as well as experts who provide sound information. There’s a fun, chatty atmosphere and it’s really easy to listen to.

With episodes covering trying to conceive, infertility, pregnancy and birth related topics you’ll be sure to find something that appeals to you.

Choosing Your Baby’s Name – The Only Rule You Need

Pregnancy Podcast – Baby Names

Why this podcast?
The Pregnancy Podcast has featured many times before because I love it! It’s fun and easy to listen to whilst providing clear, evidence-based information for all your pregnancy, birth and postpartum questions.

As it’s coming up to Christmas, I decided to feature a fun episode on choosing your baby’s name.

Why this episode?
Naming your baby can be a really enjoyable part of pregnancy or early postpartum but it can also be stressful finding just the right name. This episode gives some great hints to help you along the way.

What To Pack In Your Birth Bag

The Pregnancy Podcast – What to Pack in Your Birth Bag

Why this podcast?
If you’ve ever read this blog before you will probably have stumbled across quite a few posts featuring the Pregnancy Podcast.

I love it because the episodes are short, easy to listen to and use evidence-based info to help you get informed about pretty much everything and anything surrounding your pregnancy and birth.

It’s an amazing resource and I’m so happy that the host, Vanessa Merten, is still going strong!

Do You Co-Sleep?

All About Breastfeeding – Helen Ball Talks Co-sleeping and Room Sharing

Why this podcast?
This is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to or already breastfeeding.
The host, Lori Isenstadt, is an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and after having a tough birth and breastfeeding experience with her first child, she certified as both a Childbirth Educator and a Birth Doula.

With around ten thousand consultations with mothers and babies, Lori definitely knows a thing or two about breastfeeding.

Doulas: What are they and what are they not?

Dr Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast – Labor Doulas

Why this podcast?
I’ve been wanting to feature this one ever since Dr Berlin was interviewed about breech birth on Preggie Pals. For that post, click here.
Dr Berlin is, among other things, an award-winning prenatal chiropractor and a doula who also happens to have his own podcast (with rocking’ theme music).

Plus, as a doula, how could I not love a podcast devoted to keeping people informed during their pregnancy?
